How to Vote

House-to-house registration

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) will be conducting house-to-house registration at houses and places of residence. Registration will not be done at offices.

Even if you were previously registered, you will need to register again in order to vote in the upcoming election.

Who must register

You must register to vote if you are:

  • A Guyanese citizen by birth, descent or naturalisation.
  • 14 years old and older by 31st October 2019.
  • A citizen of a Commonwealth country living in Guyana for a period of no less than one year preceding the qualifying date.

What documents you need to register

In order to register, you must have one of the following documents:

  • A birth certificate.
  • A valid passport.
  • An adoption certificate.
  • Naturalisation certificate / certificate of registration.

Married women may also be asked to present their marriage certificate. Individuals who had a name change which is not stated on their birth certificate must present a deed poll along with their original birth certificate.

Only original documents will be accepted.
